GeoConSol
Geotechnical & Tunnel Consultants

A consultant is a universal observer who can look at a problem outside the environment in which the problem came to be, thereby creating a solution that was never possible before.  Fernando Flores

Competence and Integrity
are
the foundation of our reputation.

/

We are geologists, geotechnical, and construction engineers specializing in tunnel, underground, and heavy construction.  We are experts in the independent assessment, presentation, evaluation, and defense of differing site condition claim entitlement.   We are the developers of the industry standard 6 elements for entitlement in differing site condition claims.

In the beginning, our original entry into tunneling consisted of exploratory drilling for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit system and other projects in the 1960's.

Subsequently we developed a system of rock testing for the evaluation and prediction of tunnel boring machine feasibility and boreability in terms of penetration rates, TBM utilization, advance rates, and cutter consumption in the 1970's.

Beginning with tunnel boring projects and later developing specialized and controlled drill & blast excavation design, we have developed an expertise in a wider range of tunnel construction, ground behavior, and geotechnical interpretation for predicting anticipated conditions and excavation performance.

Our experience spans the fields of tunnel boring, conventional, and mechanical underground excavation, dredging, safety issues, machine failures, and differing site conditions. We are also experienced in independent analysis, expert testimony, disputes resolution, and dispute adjudication.

Having to deal with problems commonly encountered in tunnel excavation we have developed forensic skills which are called upon in the adjudication of a wide variety of differing site conditions and other construction disputes.  In the course of forensic investigations we have established standard methods of  investigation, analysis, assessment, conclusion, and graphic presentation for:

1. anticipated & encountered conditions,
2. anticipated & encountered excavation performance,
3. mechanical performance,
4. machine failure to perform, and
5. project performance.

In the course of dealing with many types of problems on tunneling projects, we have developed skills in project conceptualization and planning to avoid potential problems and adjudicating disputes through serving on disputes resolution boards, in arbitration, and as an independent reviewer of claims.

Our clientelle includes governments, government agencies, project owners, design & geotechnical engineers, contractors, specialty sub-contractors, attorneys, and insurance companies from North to South America, from the Western Hemisphere to Europe, Africa, Asia, and New Zealand.
